Target Audience
Managers, staff, community leaders and volunteers in community organisations, NGOs and public services who work with diverse local communities, and want to build stronger, more equal relationships between people and services.
Outline
This interactive online workshop will help participants move from “doing to” and “doing for” communities towards genuinely “working with” them. Through short inputs, small‑group exercises and practical tools, participants will:
- Practice community conversations and positive story‑sharing.
- Map who they currently reach, who they rarely engage, and who is missing.
- Examine one key service/process from a community member’s perspective.
- Identify simple changes to make information and access clearer and fairer.
- Explore ideas for social two‑way mentorship and peer explaining.
Methodology
Delivered virtually via Zoom.
Instructor

Rosemary Kunene
With over 12 years’ experience in migrant participation, integration, and community development, I specialise in community engagement facilitation and social entrepreneurship focused on tackling information poverty and strengthening inclusion.
I design and deliver interactive, evidence‑informed training and community programmes that bring migrants, local residents and frontline services into honest, practical conversations about inclusion and participation. My work is shaped by lived experience of supporting communities to build on their strengths, work more collaboratively, and create change that lasts.
As Founder of Dignity Partnership, a social enterprise addressing information poverty and promoting meaningful community participation, I am committed to creating more inclusive, connected communities where people are recognised as contributors and are supported to fully participate in society.
Outcomes
By the end of the workshop, participants will:
– Understand asset‑based, co‑produced ways of working with communities.
– Have a clear snapshot of their current and “missing” users.
– Identify 2–3 practical simplifications to one real service or process.
– Leave with at least one “quick win” to test in the next 1–2 months.
– Take away ideas for involving people with lived experience as peers, mentors and co‑designers.
