Outline
Ensuring accurate financial record-keeping is a fundamental part of any organisation. This course will seek to explain the accounting cycle and the role of bookkeeping within that cycle including a discussion on the key books and records your organisation needs to keep to ensure it is fully recording its financial transactions.

Úna McDevitt
Úna Mc Devitt has over 25 years’ experience in delivering training to the not-for-profit and voluntary sector in both financial skills and soft skills. She is a fellow of Chartered Accountants Ireland and holds a Masters in Organisational Behaviour and has extensive experience of working with boards and staff in a range of organisations. Úna is on the board of a not-for-profit in the financial area and is also on the board of a number of community groups.
Outcomes
By the end of the session you will:
- Understand the accounting cycle and how bookkeeping fits into that cycle
- Have identified the key books and records required by your organisation to ensure effective bookkeeping
- Understand the importance of preserving the ‘audit trail proof’ when it comes to recording financial transactions
- Understand the role of internal controls in bookkeeping
- Know how good bookkeeping underpins the year-end financial statements.
