Effective Leadership & Management of Teams
All too often volunteer leaders/trustees and employees in the non-profit sector can find themselves in management and leadership roles without having a full understanding of what such roles actually involve. Furthermore, it is frequently the case that no further training or support is offered to people in these demanding positions.
Target Audience
For small and medium sized non-profit organisations, community, voluntary, charitable & social enterprise registered in the Republic of Ireland. Board Members, CEOs, Managers, Members of Management Teams, or anyone interested in any of these roles.
Outline
What does it mean to be an effective leader and/or an effective manager? How do we develop these capacities within us and apply them to our everyday lives and work?
Working in a non-profit organisations means being a Board member, a CEO, manager or a team leader or a mixture of these. Can we perform these roles more effectively and how can we develop the skills to do this? How can be become transformative leaders and managers in our non-profit organisations?
This 4-part online Leadership Programme will give participants an opportunity reflect about their work, build confidence, learn practical skills and develop important people management capacities. It is comprised of 4 parts:
- Leadership: Values, emotional intelligence, understanding ourselves, being able to reflect on what makes us a leader, developing our own leadership styles, the connection between leadership and motivation; leadership types; how we can test ourselves and our leadership qualities.
- Leadership and Teams: Taking our leadership style out into the world; ways to build really successful teams; getting our teams to engage and collaborate, motivating our teams; building successful team culture; how we can explore the type of team player I am.
- Leadership Teams and Effective Management: The fundamentals of effectiveness; leadership and management – differences; how we can combine leadership, management, mentoring and coaching to get the best from our people; effective management and strategic planning - defining vison, the promise and the delivery mechanism. Dealing with management challenges for new and existing managers.
- Implementation: Practical ways in which we apply the leadership and team management skills we have learned: effective communication and influencing; building engagement; introducing and managing change, working with conflict; dealing with difficult situations and people.

Methodology
Via Zoom.
The funding for the provision of these services comes from the National Training Fund administered by the Department of Further and Higher Education, Research Innovation and Science. The €75 nominal charge is by way of contribution. Participants will be asked to provide further information regarding Age Range, Gender, Employment Status, Educational Background, Role in Organisation, Organisation Activity & Size post registration.

Liam Scollan
Liam Scollan's background includes CEO of a successful social enterprise for 11 years and of a government development agency as well as been a keen activist and advocate for the voluntary sector and a volunteer director on Boards of management for over 30 years. His depth of high level experience provides him with a credible and commanding knowledge of what it takes to manage effectively in the sector. He has a proven track record in leading organisations to very high levels of achievement: quadrupling turnover, winning national, UK and European awards for urban regeneration, customer service, public relations and innovation whilst leaving lasting social and economic legacies.
